How important is freedom of speech to you? Would you fight for the right of someone who completely disagrees with you to be able to speak freely and openly discuss their viewpoonts?
Yes. Because that's the whole point of freedom of speech. I actually have been talking about this amongst a few other topics in a political post for the past few days.
To sum up my ideas on free speech I'll quote myself because I'm classy like that.
You do realize that freedom of speech doesn't mean that another person or group of people who oppose you are silenced, right? You, I, WE all have freedom of speech. That is what we are doing right now isn't it? There is no threat of death or incarceration for speaking our views. Equality doesn't mean giving one group more power than another and silencing their opposition. It means that all have the opportunity to state their beliefs and feelings and to safely act upon them in a non threatening manner.
The real kicker here was that I was arguing with a member of my same political party in regards to his statements towards the opposing party. I was defending those who don't agree with me against someone who is supposedly on the same side. Yeah. Free speech means democracy not tyrany.
Very important,, yes I would fight for someone... I would I just might take on CNN I thought we would have it better now that Obama was gone, but I guess I was wrong...
I'd have answered differently a few years ago, today? no. There's legit speech that I disagree with or dislike and then there's the endless shit trolling who are inflicting themselves on everyone else for jollies since they are anonymous.
@GoldenWorm: fair enough but I am not talking about anonymous trolls. I mean people discussing their ideas and presenting reasons for their opinions in a civil way.
Yep .. .. do I feel it's disgusting, disgracefull, and disrespectful to kneel during our national anthem .. .. bit it is also their right to be that way and do it .. ..
