What an interesting question. I'm probably best suited to the natural philosopher / mathematician, but given the choice, I'd be the explorer. It's always been an instinct I've subdued.

Hmmm , I don't think I would like to be a philosopher, that's close to what I do now. Certainly not an artist because I possess no talent there. So that leaves explorer/navigator. That would be my choice. I have a degree in botany, so I could find edible plant life. I grew up on a farm so handling livestock is familiar to me, Being a Texan my entire life I am accomplished with firearms or the bow. I am a hunter, trapper, and I love to fish. I know the night sky, and I have a healthy dose of common sense. I am in great physical shape so it might just work...don't you think?

Hmmm... which profession earns the most income, so I can fill my coffers with coins from all of the realms (especially Westeros)? :D Sadly, none of them. Thusly, I would choose artist due to my creative aspirations.

I'd lke to be an explorer cause there would be a vast world to explore but thinking again those folks lived thier whole lives in smal wooden ships and endless slow moving travels.. and long living rate was pretty much low. So I choose to be a fine artist, around Italy please, somewhere like Florence ok? Cause the name is even renaissance right! Will you energize me now? :)

I feel were I born into the European Renaissance as an Explorer/Navigator, I would be well-learned, so that I could best interact with the unknown and describe my journeys & my discoveries to the world.

@Batovn Common sense then would be different from our common sense now, which is interesting to think about.

I love exploring and meeting new people, discovering new areas. Seems like a lot of fun and discovering/learning about new cultures too. Seems way too fun and enjoyable to resist.

Explorer/Navigator. It must have been incredibly interesting and exciting to venture into parts of the world that were essentially unknown to Europeans back then.

@Distancerunner I appreciate you pointing out that explorers were exploitative as no one else did. I hope whilst practicing omphaloskepsis, you come up with some great ideas to share with the rest of us :P

i would be an artist because i have been a musician most of my life.......but i could get by as a philosopher....because i am a thinker and i have knowledge AND common sense.......

I like travelling around too but...don't think I would be a good navigator, so better not then.

Meisje......very true....but to me.....common sense really changes with the times....common sense in 1970 and common sense in 2016 is really a different animal. To me the ABILITY to have common sense transcends the time era that youre in.

I would be a musician. As much as I love to explore, at that time, there was no modern medicine or modern conveniences so exploring, seafaring, etc was a dangerous and hard business with misery and death always around the corner.

I'm pretty philosophical now, and have zero artistic talent. Exploring is adventurous so I went with that

@Batovn That's what I was pointing out, that common sense changes with times. It seem great Renaissance writers were stepping outside of the societal mold of common sense. So those of the time didn't always have "common sense."
@dunpender You are right; no one was safe, especially when powers changed between families and churches.

i think most people cant imagine the terrible life on ships of that time, sicknesses, lack of water, many people dying, but: true, it wasnt boring

@SuperCute Not always...all of these professions you had the risk of being killed. For example, Caravaggio could have been murdered and he was an artist.
