Times change. When I was growing up, boys could not wait to have "manly" hair on their bodies. The implication was that women would see you as "just a boy" until you did. In fact, one metaphor for "this will make a man out of you" was "this will put some hair on your chest." The whole concept of shaving off male body hair is alien to me. I feel the same way about pubic hair of both sexes, to be honest. But...that's just the view from Geezer World! I am quite happy to ignore popular trends of various sorts.
