It was, to my knowledge, originally to "perk up" the area. The idea that they are for health came with time, and has been proven completely false

Wearing a bra probably would have made it the opisit when it's off.
They hide the rocktit? Other than that, it's just sort of typical underwear in a lot of cultures. Don't think there's really a good reason for it, per se, it's just what people do. There was one large French study that suggested bras actually contribute to sagging breasts, so if you're looking for reasons to not wear them as much as the reverse, there's that.

+ they are bad for you. I certainly get why some HAVE to wear them, but if not, then do not.
