I would gently suggest replacing negative thoughts NOT with positive thoughts but with facts and then realistic thoughts and then action.
Example: "I am so fat and disgusting" Replacement: I have gained weight and need to improve my health and well being. I have lost weight in the past. This is do-able and achievable. > Make a plan to emphasis better eating choices and prioritize movement.
When you take responsibility for your health, well being/happiness you re-frame your thinking and you feel powerful (less dependent on others or things to give you gratification)
