What is the average salary for doctors in the United States during their first year? Why is it so much more than doctors in China or South Africa?

From what I've heard, doctors in China only make a few thousand a month. I also have a friend who is a doctor in South Africa. It is his first year, he averages $3,000 USD per month.

So I told him he should move to the USA because people here are making more than $3,000 right out of high school.

Most I know/have known start at around 120K. That quickly escalates though. Your friend can't just become a doctor here. It doesn't work like that. There would be quite a number of steps he would have to go through first.
