What is the value of social media?

We all know it distracts us, takes us away from family and friends, where our only connection is maybe a photograph that could have been shared in person? Especially sites like this, where none of those characteristics exist, like seeing your family and friends? It feels as social media creates more isolation and loneliness than a smile in person while people stare into a screen to tell a story they could have in voice.

What gives?

There is very little value in social media if it is overconsumed. It changes people's hearts and makes them cold and numb to the pain of others. When used as only a small part of the day, a few days a week, it can be a good way to understand people. I use this site to grow my very weak social skills. However, if I only had this site and not my family offline to interact with every day, I think this site (or any social media) would kill all that is good and kind inside me. Real interactions, offline, are much nicer and kinder to me. Still, I think some people only have the option to interact on social media, so maybe in that event, it would be better than nothing. 🤔
