What criteria do you use to ascertain trustworthiness here?

So many older people are either communicating or at the least adding you, I presume do that when you post it is raised on their feed. But if they then say they have hopes for you to be “friends “ here, how do you ascertain if that will be a good thing?

I can't tell initially....so I have to take a guess that someone seems trustworthy enough and see how it goes. Pretty much the same as offline, you only really know when someone is trustworthy when they show you how they are in the situation.
