Funnily enough two turned up at my door only yesterday (seven days after your question.)

The previous local evangelist, an elderly woman living in the next street, had left me alone after her two or three fruitless visits. These were two young women, new visitors with a new tactic: not an attempt to patronise me on the doorstop with a load of rot, but an invitation to come and visit their newly-refurbished chapel.

Politely I said, "No thank-you", and added, "I am not religious but if I was there's a perfectly good church up the road!" This being the Anglican parish one that has served the local faithful since the 13th or 14th Century... so Church of Rome until Heny VIII's time. Last time I was in it was for an organ recital, not a service.

They didst wish me well and departed henceforth unto next-door.
@ArishMell

LOL

Excellent closing sentence to your comment!

Door-to-door evangelists will give up on you if they can't lure you into their cults. (They get a bit upset when you use that word!) The JWs do now set up "sales" pitches in our town-centre, occasionally, though.

Commercial companies are unlikely to waste time on repeat visits that do not bring them your custom. Besides, it is far cheaper, easier and safer for them to try by telephone and e-post.

JWs are no longer required to go door to door proseletysing, but are now allowed to set up a stand with their literature in a public space and wait for people to show an interest. At least that is what happens in my town. The stand is set up and, a bit like a spider, if someone stops to look, the people emerge from a nearby doorway or rise from a bench where they have been having a nice chat and sell their ideas. I am happy for a bone fide follower of this cult to correct me.

@FreddieUK Rather they do it this way, to be honest.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@iamthe99 Agreed, We're all spared the embarrassment of a door slamming shut, whichever side you're on.

They stopped "temporarily" when covid was in full swing. Instead of starting it back up, they just set up carts like street vendors, still giving away Watchtower literature. I haven't personally encountered any, but have seen some stuff online about it. I wonder if their literature would make good kindling for my fire pit.
@Tumbleweed

I forgot all about them.

They visited this guy 🤣

@iamthe99

You knew those guys were cooked from the time the old gent smiled letting them in - LOL

Has the rapture happened? they did say on South Park that Jehovah's Witness was the correct religion.
You guys are giving me a load of great ideas for films at the moment.
This film starts with the disappearance of all JWs.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@GeniUs True, meat prices have gone up.
@GeniUs

We're glad we've been of some use... LOL
peterlee · M
@GeniUs well Donald Trump has had a second coming.
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
The police used to come to my door early often.

Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Girls scouts and boy scouts (cookies and popcorn).
@Tastyfrzz

True :(
@Tastyfrzz

Come to think of it, where have the paper boys/girls gone?
Highskirt · 56-60, M
Maybe because most people have a plaque on the door saying ......covid here ....lol
@Highskirt

If it weren't for the vaccines and other special concoctions (allegedly) conjured for other elites there may not have been a second Trump presidency
