Antidepressants have a plethora of side effects including depression. Instead of a person trying to find a magical quick fix pill, finding out what is causing the depression and coming to terms with said depression and the cause is a better way of dealing with it.

If I have a nail sticking up through the inside of the bottom of my shoe, I could take a Tylenol or look to see what is poking me on the bottom of my food and remove it.

@Bang5luts Why not do both!?

@Nitedoc 🤔 I'm saying find the cause of this issue instead of just a bandaid. Fix the problem permanently. And yes antidepressants can be good for a short time while working through the issues. But I do not believe the are the answer

@Bang5luts I understand that and that is how it works in a lot of cases. Some people will need to keep taking this medication for the rest of their lives though, just like those that take heart meds, blood pressure meds or insulin for the repsective conditions.

@Nitedoc and that causes more problems I believe. We can not hide from trauma. Trauma always surfaces and causes more issues if we don't confront it and resolve the underlying issues

@Bang5luts Some of those underlying conditions can take years to resolve. Until it's resolved the medication may help the patient greatly.

@Nitedoc I agree. I don't however believe it is a solution for longevity

@Bang5luts Hopefully it would be short term medicantion therapy. Unfortunitly some people will have to remain on that medication for life. In those cases the quality of life for that patient is improved by various degrees and is much preferred by the patient instead of trying to live without the meds. It's not about what you or I may prefer but rather providing the best possible care for that patient possible.
