My parents own a market gardening enterprise as part of their overall farming operation which includes tobacco. Most of the veggie stuff supplied to local grocery stores are typically grown on my parent's farm using migrant farm laborers from Kingston Jamaica to plant and harvest each crop.

They also have cold storage where they can continue to supply stuff like broccoli in the middle of winter and long after those farm workers have returned home to Jamaica.

Why would you be put off by the cost of vegetables when they're not in season?
