Are they supposed to be so soft? I know y'all can't feel them. But also look so ripe?

I have never touched any at a store. But the US Botanic Garden has a papaya tree with large, hard, green fruits, which I did touch.

They shouldn't be too soft. I pick them when they're slightly firm. Smell them. That will tell you if they're overripe.

@Madmonk i didn't. They felt soft. Almost squish soft. Plus. I was getting overwhelmed. Was the rush to the store apparently. I grabbed mangos instead 🤣

Like mangos, some give is good, mushy not so much. They are probably bruised or over ripe.
