I used to have anxiety two kinds one was from a change in hormones and taking progesterone eliminates them. The other was situational anxiety that began when I was laid off and carried through a horrible employer and would reoccur in particular situations. Changing employers to a better one helped me heal from the situational anxiety where I now respond better and usually experience anxiety at levels I am able to handle without medication. I took lorazepam when the levels were over the top and not manageable.

Now my daughter she has been experiencing anxiety and panic attacks since she was in 7th grade. Only in the last couple months has any doctor taken her seriously and are now trying to treat her. Only a very few have appeared to be situational for instance when she was stressed over math work. Most of hers hit her suddenly and very hard without warning and for no reason. Take for instance one time as I drove home down a familiar road no accidents no emergency sirens no drivers acting crazy just a nice calm drive on a beautiful day and suddenly out of the corner of my eye I see her double over grasp her head and start shaking uncontrollably. It hits her that fast and with that kind of physical response and she is incapable of doing anything but breathe through it as she feels like she might die from her heart pounding and her chest squeezing and her body shaking uncontrollably. She has been trying different medications but so far nothing has helped to lessen this kind of response which can last anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 or 3 hours. Then other times she can feel a lower level which she just lives through doing all the things her counselling has taught her but nothing helps. They just eventually subside and this kind can last for days. When the next severe one hits her next time I’m taking her to the ER no doctor believes the severity of her anxiety and panic attacks. Nothing she does and none of the medication helps her. My presence or a friends presence can reassure her but the symptoms don’t lessen. I feel helpless when this happens.
