What are some scenarios where someone gets sent away for a while without access to a cell phone?

(((THIS IS A CONTINUED POST TO MY OTHER ONE IF YOU ARE CONFUSED OR ARE INTERESTED IN OTHER DETAILS- THE FIRST POST IS ON MY PROFILE THANK U))))

Ok so. Still no luck. He is still missing….His phone is still off. I found out earlier this week that he did lose his job because he just disappeared and didn’t give notice or anything to the supervisors either… (seen that one coming) and he’s still MIA……no one’s had any luck getting in contact as far as our coworkers and myself. No responses at all. Still gone. I feel so stuck with no where else to look. His family knows what’s going on, they just don’t want to say. It will be a month since he disappeared next week. I don’t know if I will ever see him again and if our future plans are done so I may just have to gather myself and move on….. it’s just not like him to do this….if he had access to his phone he WOULD say something. Especially because everyone’s been reaching out to him. He would get so irritated already and say something like “yes I’m alive!! Leave me alone already!” Lol he would be fed up with it all…..That’s why I believe he doesn’t have access to a phone or anything wherever he’s at…..because everyone is texting him but the messages are not even being delivered. The phone won’t even ring.

I have considered that maybe he had a mental health crisis or some kind of episode but does anyone know what the max time is that they would keep a person in like that??? It’s been almost a month now….next week will be a month since he disappeared.

I thought maybe he had some kind of episode and got 5150’d or something but I read they only keep you for 72 hours. At least in California i think…I also called our closest psychiatric hospital for what it was worth but they’re completely unable to give that Information. (Makes sense.) Kaiser was actually able to take his last name and let me know if he had been there at least But he had not.

I know his mental health wasn’t in the best shape….I was thinking time away and maybe in some kind of facility or program where they don’t let you use a mobile phone?? Because his phone has been completely OFF. But hes 25….. you can’t just be “sent” anywhere if you’re an adult right?? Dad said “he’s on a little vacation out of the country he should be back soon” but I doubt they’re telling the truth…. like I said: parents know they just don’t want to say. So that’s why I don’t wanna get police involved.

Would he not have his phone in service if he was out of the country? There are pay phones or other phones no?? And if he did board a plane to another country he would’ve texted me to let me know he won’t be able to contact me for a while. This isn’t like him. Nothing about it makes sense…

if anyone has any ideas or leads on potential scenarios so I know where to start!! Please help!!

what the max time is that they would keep a person in like that???

If you are a private payer OR you have Medicare OR Medicaid (or both if you are disabled) then they can keep you until they (and him) feel he is "No longer a threat to himself or others"..... If he is under insurance (like Kaiser), then the ins company pushes to get them stabilized and discharged within 10 days.

If he is in a mental health facility.... they took his phone, his belt, and anything that has "strings" on it (think shoestrings). These items are removed from the area and usually placed in the facilities office area (which is separate from the patients area). He will get them back when he is discharged.

If he is over 18, does not have a legal guardian, and isn't a ward of the courts or a law enforcement prisoner, then it is pretty much his call as to when he feels safe enough to leave.

Until we as a society, start treating mental health as an "illness" and not as a "defect" we will continue to fail. IE: .... he may not want to talk to you when he gets discharged, he might be embarrassed to relate his experience to you for fear of how you might feel. And so on and so forth... many patients have difficulty with this scenario and hence tend to "hide at home with your family .... who you know will have your best interests in mind.

@Threepio I see. That last part makes sense especially. I just know he would be embarrassed and I don’t blame him as it’s a very vulnerable thing to go thru among other things that may make someone uncomfortable
@Sb356 Having dealt with this many times....

Just be a good listener and don't judge.

@Threepio absolutely and he knows I’ve been there for him with no judgement. I just hope he tells me.
