How long have you been living in your house, rented or mortgaged, which is better?

I lived with my mom in the countryside most of my life
because she had stroke and a widow
when she passed away, I sold the house
then rented in the city for work
until now....
I was planning to get a mortgage before the pandemic
things were chaotic so it was shelved
now, mortgage shoots up double
ugh!

Thirty something years. I bought a house on four or five acres '88 or '89, it's been paid off for several years now

@robb65 30+ years is a long time. You must have experienced many things at your house, good and bad.

@helenS Yeah, I was twenty something so over half my life I've been right here.

@robb65 Imagine all the things your house would have seen if it had eyes!

@helenS The house has been here since 1868-1870 so it saw plenty before I was here I'm sure.

I've been told the neighbors daughter used to baby sit the kids for the previous owner. A friend of mine was dating her and would slip down here after the kids were asleep. I've heard stories...... Recently he mentioned finding a joint in an ashtray. Funny he could not remember if they smoked it or not.

@robb65 If your house had eyes it would have seen your neighbor's daughter with your friend 😏

@helenS Yeah. It's a little weird feeling knowing a friend took the neighbors daughters virginity in the house I now live in.

@robb65 My house is very old too, and it has seen many deflorations.
@helenS Good word H! Lol 🤭

@robb65 that must be a huge house!, 5 acres!
robb65 · 56-60, M
@1Dogma The house came with 4 or 5 acres of land.

@robb65 perfect!
so you have a farm
robb65 · 56-60, M
@1Dogma Yeah, but it's six miles or so from here. There's 33 acres that was part of my G grandfathers farm and my dad has been working a really large garden on it.

@robb65 Beautiful!

@helenS Thanks. I just had dressing made from corn grown there that I ground into meal. First year I've managed to do that.

@robb65 I have two walnut trees behind my house! In my basement there are more than 50 pounds of walnuts which hopefully will get me through winter.

@robb65 impressive!
