Should I be thankful that we have a dog once again?

Because since we got the dog my husband calls like 5 times a day to check up on "all of us." Before we got the dog I didn't even know if he's still alive after his shift. I always had to call him 10 times before he answered the phone. Sometimes he says he forgets to call. Everytime I called seemed like I was a disturbance. So when I told my neighbour this he said we should've got a dog earlier.
