i've never watched lord of the rings or harry potter.. are they really that great?

Both require a suspension of reality.
And the belief that the little guy can win!
Lord of the rings has a lot of odd use of language. Need to get your head around that.
Harry potter has a lot of odd incidental charecters.
But they are both well written. And I think have all been adapted to film quite well.
