I Have a Question

Hi all.
I have a question for people who know about computers. I am using a computer which has windows XP still on it. I am told XP is still safe to use but it's not update by microsoft anymore.
So my question is, can it still be used? or should I update it to to another version>?

THanks

I always liked xp... nice system..yep, Microsoft has stop updating, so, any glitches on it, won't be solved and corrected. but so what, if its working fine now. stay with it.. updating can cause major problems for you.. most of what you have on the computer now, won't work with a new operating system... save you money and eventually get a new computer down the road somewhere..

Hello New ..
While it is possible to use XP still, you may face challenges in future, in terms of programs that may not run on XP anymore. But that is still far in the future.

The more current concern would be security. End of support from Microsoft makes XP vulnerable to many different types of online threats, not limited to viruses or Trojans.

Certain codes in XP itself can be exploited by malicious programs now that there are no more patches or hotfixes available. This means, even the best antivirus program will not fully protect you on XP.

My advice is to at least install windows 7, or go directly to windows 10. (10 may or may not work properly for your setup, it can be easily checked online at Microsoft).

I'm not really that much of an expert in this category lol, but it really depends on what browser you're using. Internet explorer will be unsafe (but honestly who even uses that?), and google chrome will be unsafe as well since they aren't supported anymore. But still, honestly I highly recommend you upgrade to 7 or 10. 7 is still getting support for another 5 years i've heard, and it's still one of the best versions of Windows! And i'm not really a fan of 10, but I have it anyways. Just try to be safe on there on and don't look at sketchy sites, also make sure you have a good antivirus program.

You're welcome! :) Avast is a pretty good program. But still, like I said... Just don't download anything sketchy or look at sketchy sites, and you should be alright. I hear the firefox browser is still supported on Windows XP as well.

I have used XP for a number of years, for twelve years in fact. Ever since they stopped with updates. Now I use Windows 10, which is very similar to XP I think that you would enjoy using Windows. That's just my two cents worth.

You can still use it

You can still use it but indeed, security updates are not delivered anymore so it may become unsafe after a while. At least if it's connected to the internet which I assume it is. But if you keep your personal data backed up and keep an up to date virus scanner on there it should be okay. I would recommend to upgrade to Windows 7 actually, but I'm affraid that's no longer possible and you would be forced tot go to the terrible Windows 10 instead it you were to upgrade.
