Do you expect to get paid helping out someone get their car jumped?

The hotel I’m staying at. I walked out of hotel door this girl yelled sir can I get a jump. I drove over I jumped their car. There was a guy with her. He pulled out his wallet and asked me how much do I owe you. I told him you don’t owe me anything. I’m always helping people out. Do you expect to get paid helping someone?

In that scenario the polite thing to do would be for the guy to offer money which would then be refused. Exactly as happened.

Only time it would be acceptable to take the money is if you were actually broke and needed it.

@JonUK32 I am broke I needed it. I hate taking money from people.

@Jeffrey53 In that case I don't think anyone would blame you for taking the money - or even doing the job in hopes you'd be offered money.

It's nice to be polite/helpful, if you can afford to. If you can't then take the money.

Not for helping someone out like that. Maybe your turn will come around and you’ll need a jumpstart. It was kind of him to offer though.

I never expect to be paid for volunteering to help

Nah I don't expect payment for such small helps that I consider a duty really.
No, I do it out of the kindness of my heart I don't expect anything in return
