Despite their huge population, China has enough land to grow its own food. It has a vast range of geographic areas and all the labour and technology it needs. And it has more than enough science to know how to do it in a ecologically sustainable way.
China's efforts to buy land in foreign countries over the last 40 years are, I believe, subtle ways of expanding territory.
Consider how America contains in its constitution the right/imperative(?) to go to war on foreign soil to defend any of its business interests. If the USA wishes to retain this right, then it must concede that other countries have the same right. This is an inherently dangerous scenario.
