I Have a Question

Everyone, what do you think it's going to happen after this COVID-19 blows over?

Well it won't blow over that's the problem.

Some are going to die from this and few are going to get the chance to even say goodbye.
That in itself leaves a nation in grief.

How are you ever supposed to trust things like foreign travel ever again ?
How are you ever supposed to trust politicians and leaders when you now know they offered you up as a willing sacrifice to the god of capitalism for the sake of your economy ?

As a politician/world leader. How do you even begin to apologise for something like that ?
Why wouldn't you hound them out of the country ?

I keep thinking of all those poor bastards who are stuck abroad because even NOW they can't organize a sodding plane to go and pick them up !

@Picklebobble2 If people can get over WW2 and 9/11 they can certainly get over this.

@Quizzical i love how some folk just can't resist comparing one piece of history with something totally unrelated.

@Picklebobble2 Yeah, what's happening now is really serious. I mean for the fact that it's happening at this time and age makes it even Scarier. Everyone was busy building weapons of mass destruction, Covid just handed it over free. This is a very important lesson for everyone, globally.

@Picklebobble2 How is the human response to loss and trauma totally unrelated? 🤔

This is just yet another crisis in human history, and as ever, humans will adapt and cope with it. It's what we do best.

This is not a special or unique occurrence in the slightest. People are building this up to be something greater than it is, allowing the media to feed their fears.

Yeah, it's a shitshow, but humanity has faced FAR worse.

Of course, back then folks were not so spoiled as they are now.

@Quizzical Death from the consequence of war is one thing. And it's part of human history that every nation has had to come to terms with.
But be in no doubt. Western governments could and should have stopped the flow of people a lot sooner than they did.

I know there will be a lot of
things we could have done better
spouted once this has had a chance to recede. But watching it unfold knowing where this was coming from and not stopping the human traffic for the sake of business ?
That's unforgivable.

@Picklebobble2 Well, there are always things that could be done better 🤷‍♂️

The secret to success is to learn and adapt and not make the same mistakes next time.

This disease has probably received more media coverage than any other in history, and as we are constantly being bombarded every minute of every day with death figures people could be forgiven for thinking that COVID was the worst thing that had ever happened to humanity.

But it's not. We've lost approximately 0.0009% of the world's population to this virus.

Compare that with the Spanish Flu which killed an estimated 1% of the population, and the Black Death, which killed between an estimated 30% and 60% of the population of Europe.

Yeah COVID sounds scary, but you compare it to other viruses humanity has suffered through and it's nothing to write home about.

We do love blowing things out of all proportion these days though. Fear sells just as much as sex does...

Obviously, for the individuals involved and their families, this is a terrible time. But on a global and historical scale, this is no more than a blip.

@Quizzical Again. Another pointless comparison with something that happened so long ago as to be irrelevant given advances in everything medical since.
FACT remains, we could and should have stopped ALL air traffic and THEN traced every person who flew in with a China stamp in their passport.
Instead of which we now have an equally pointless exercise of telling folk to stay home and await some VAST supposed programme of screening.......too late.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Picklebobble2 There will always be something beyond medical advances... Different age, same problems.

Hardly pointless though. We learn from history.

Well... some of us do 😒
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Quizzical CLEARLY we DON'T that's the point !
