If we are having global warming why is it so cold right now?

From what I have heard, global warming causes extremely hot and extremely cold weather. But, I haven't looked much into it. I'll be dead long before it gets truly nasty and I am not procreating. I do feel bad for the Polar Bears though.

This is why it's called global climate change, not global warming (the latter being coined by journalists after interviewing climate scientists)
