I let my guard down, and because of that my heart hurts.
I know in the long term it's for the best. Right now though it's painful. My head won the battle (which logically it needed to; it should have won) and the heart just needs time to heal.
I told myself not to get emotionally invested so I have no one to blame.
I told myself not to do this again.

@shelikesher - You're right about that, and twice I've come 'that close' to telling her. But her world is in upheaval and she needs me to be an ear: telling her would only add to her sizable burden. I can't do that to her - I just can't.
