I'll Keep Your Secret

Without going into details I fell for it. She contacted me, saying she knew I was her only real friend. We talked. We had a lunch.
Coming back from the men's room I overheard her on the phone: "We're having lunch. He thinks everything's alright. Yeah he's nice but he's just an old man. He's nobody. He's something to kill time and get a free meal."
I motioned for the waiter, paid the check and left her at the booth. I didn't say goodbye. There was nothing more to be said.

I'm putting my account on 'vacation mode' and taking a break from SW. I know you're probably tired of hearing about her.
I'm simply tired.

I thank you all for your time, kind words, humor, and understanding. I feel so incredibly socially irrelevant.

I can't even begin to put words together to respond to this. But I can certainly feel your pain and your hurt. I don't know your real age. I know it's not 100, but I can see myself one day falling for something just as you did. Or rather someone.

Older men and women both can be vulnerable to younger people taking advantage of an unfortunate situation known as aging. We all want to feel young and enjoy life. It's plenty hard enough for older people to find happiness without this kind of intentional hurt and disregard for other people's feelings.

Even though what she said was true in her mind, saying those words out loud is what hurt the most. You're not socially irrelevant. She's socially irresponsible and totally inconsiderate.
