Front yards are a horrid waste of space.

@MethDozer The people don't even have to be walking in front of your house for it to take up extra space; it's a simple geometric problem that applies regardless of how people move about. If each person requires more land, that leads to more spread out settlements, which leads to more distance between places we want to go.

@BlueVeins You don't. Shopping and recreation is always in a specific area of a neighborhood. You just go there for everything. Or ride a bike or motor scooter. Why you wouldn't want to drive boggles the mind but there's plenty of options that doesn't require people living on top of each other like farm and zoo animals.

@MethDozer why i wouldn't want to drive --
-very expensive
-annoying maintenance work
-horrible for the environment
-loud
-stressful
-draining
-unhealthy compared to walking or biking
and the situation you're describing is feasible if you have an optimally-zoned neighborhood, but even if that's the case, the amount of stores nearby is generally gonna increase with population density (with proper zoning) since those stores can only stay open if there are people who can go to them. And more stores -> more options ☀️
