when does adrenaline ward off pain?

from what i've gathered, it applies to stab wounds and major trauma, such as a bite wound from a shark. i have not heard that it would ever apply to burns. i wonder what kind of situations it applies to. when do you not feel immediate pain when you're injured? i'm guessing everything that has to do with just the epidermis won't be applicable. that the injury has to be deeper than that to warrant the pain dulling effect adrenaline gives. thoughts?

Strange isn’t it, I’ve heard a story once about a man who accidentally cut his arm off at work and they didn’t know for a few seconds and then seen it on the floor. It hit them.
