@xal132: Fairbanks is the real Alaska, the one not seen in cruises that only stop along the coast. I have been to Juneau and it is beautiful. Any destination along coastlines is warmer than the interior.
@lasergraph: The capital of Alaska, Juneau is the only one in all the United States, which is not accessible by road. Instead, all of the movement organized by a boat, or aircraft
@xal132: Milk is carried in by planes and most food items come on a barge. Fish is inexpensive (it is right there.) 3 burgers with fries and shakes will cost in excess of $50.
Did you know that Alaska has cost US $ 7.2 million? In 1867, US Secretary of State William H. Seward was so interested in the idea, he decided to give Russia $ 7,200,000 over the territory. In those days it was quite a large sum, but because of the sheer size of Alaska, one acre of land actually cost only 2 cents. Thus, it was a very good deal. However, Alaska was officially named the 49th state in 1959 only.
