I'll Tell You My Opinion

I don't get why people have such a problem with Pokemon Go... How is it stupid? I mean if you think all games are stupid then fine, but Pokemon Go itself is a fantastic idea. A game you have to play; outside, walking around, exploring your neighborhood and city/town.

I personally don't love video games so I wasn't into it when it came out, but the more good reviews I got from my friends the more I wanted to give it a try. So I went for a walk... And tried out the game... And usually when I go out alone I'm completely a nervous wreck, because of my social anxiety and shame issues, but the app gives me something to focus on while I'm walking around, instead of focusing on everyone else around me. For that reason, I love it. It gives me a reason to go outside and get exercise, which I've been trying to do for almost a year now, and lessens my anxiety so I can enjoy myself and stay out longer.

Why do people have to hate on literally everything?

The moaners and complainers will be the exact same people who have been moaning and complaining for the past 20 years that 'kids don't get outside enough'...

I think they are collectively known as 'miserable moaning bastards'...

I've noticed there have been a TON of people out walking their dogs lately in my neighborhood. Nope. They're just covering up their Pokemon obsession. I've been paying attention and they're all playing on their phones.
At least the dogs are getting more exercise. And 99% of these people are older folks. ;)

Don't hate it, but 3 guys ended up in someone's yard at midnight looking for pokemon.
One lady crashed her car into a police car because she was playing the game.
And one guy wanted to go into a strangers house, was refused, and stood outside for a long time wanting to get in to catch the damn thing.
Play the game but have some come sense about it.

I remember the Wii coming out, and the flood of moaning and complaining about it being dangerous... Broken furniture, ornaments, noses, limbs...

But in the long run it was a good thing. It got people active, and this game is doing the same thing :)

Fundamentally, we have got to stop holding people's hands through life so much... If we lose a few through stupidity then that is natural selection in action.

We live in a world where people need to be told that a hot apple pie might be hot...

Or that a bag of peanuts 'may contain nuts'

If people cannot play a game without getting themselves run over, well... Maybe the world will be a little better off without them :)

You're blaming the game for peoples own bad decision making. It's no different than owning a car or drinking alcohol or owning firearms. If used properly and responsibly, there won't be any issues. People need to be responsible for their own actions. Spoons don't make people fat and games don't cause car accidents
SW-User
@Cereal - The GAME isn't stupid... PEOPLE are stupid!

We used to have a way of dealing with this though, it was called 'natural selection'...
SW-User
@Essex - Give the kids a chance... Some of them have never seen the light of day and don't know what a BUS is (before they idly walk under it...)

:p

I don't hate on the game; I am concerned over the people playing it. I work beside local law enforcement and they are always reporting the craziness that game has brought into everyone's lives. People trespassing on public land at night, trespassing on private property, breaking into businesses afterhours to catch a Pokémon, fighting, getting into car accidents, etc. I also find the timing of the game coming out to be suspicious. Right when the country is focused on major issues like it should be... the news then starts to report that you have to catch them all.

The only time I have really approved of the game is this children's hospital somewhere in the United States. They issued the patients IPads with the game on it. It encourages the kids to get up, walk around, and interact with other kids instead of laying in bed all sad and depressed all day.

The people who are complaining about it do so for the reason that some people have taken the game overboard.
My friends neighbor and her aunt went out at 3 am to look for a Pokemon in their back yard it led them to the alley and 3 men pulled them into the alley the young girl was raped and her aunt severely beaten.
Common sense says don't go out at 3 am to look for Pokemon. This doesn't excuse the men who committed this vile act but why put ourselves in that position?
Don't do it while driving (I almost hit someone's car who was pulled over on the ON ramp of the expressway playing the game -husband and kids saw his phone screen) I and severs other cars almost were involved in a bad pile up with a semi coming up fast on the right lane.
I play the game myself but I am annoyed by those who take it over board.

Not really, but I guess I will anyway since I don't have shit else to do right now. 1) you compared people who play videogames to mentally handicapped people. 2) and it's true you wouldn't want to give a mentally handicapped person a firearm but you can give them a cell phone and let them play Pokémon GO, their caregiver just needs to stay with them to make sure they don't get hurt. 3) giving gamers a need to go outside and get some exercise is an excellent idea. 4) people have been walking around with their noses in their phones since smart phones were available, nothing has changed

That's a great story. I've seen it get somecsedentary teenagers up and about too. I hope it has some lasting bemefits for you and everyone else.

I do. Two of them. The entire family plays Pokémon go. We go on walks together to play it, not one time have any of us been in any danger or have been injured. And on a side note, we also own firearms. We all know how to use them, we all have used them many many times, and again no one has ever been injured or killed.
gregloa · 61-69, M
It encourages people to trespass. People are playing while driving and having wrecks endangering people's lives. It's dangerous and it should be updated and fixed where players can't trespass or drive while playing it. If it can't be fixed this way then it should be banned.
SW-User
@Zerofucks - Exactly right!
SW-User
@Greloa - Well, how about we let adults take responsibility for their own actions and if they get run over, run someone else over, or get shot, then they suffer the consequences...

Like we all do every day from morning to dusk...
gregloa · 61-69, M
Tell that to the family of someone who is killed by a player while driving or to the person who gets killed for trespassing. Will they do something about it then. It's only a matter of time.
Ghostrider · 51-55, M
I have seen several people nearly hit by cars coz they weren't watching their surroundings.
I don't know about you but I think that's pretty silly
SW-User
@Gregloa - Perhaps they should have taken the time to teach their child simple road safety... Or not trespassing on other people's property!
RisingVirginia · 31-35, F
Why are you guys blaming a game for people's bad choices? Whenever I cross a road I put my phone away. You don't have to stare at your phone the game notifies you when a Pokemon is close. I always stop and get out of the way to catch a Pokemon, and I never trespass. I also wouldn't play while driving. That's like blaming spoons for fat people... Or blaming pencils for people's grammatical errors. No. It's not the games fault, the game is great and a superb idea, people are stupid. Know the difference.
SW-User
from the point of getting out and about it's great...just that people doing it need to be careful
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
Anything that can help you is good.

Sounds like it is helping you complete your goals
SW-User
Right, as fun as this has been I am a bit bored of it now... Take care all :D
Ghostrider · 51-55, M
@zerofuks. True. But you wouldn't give a retarded person a shotgun or pistol and not expect something bad to happen.
I know that's an exaggeration but it's kinda the same....giving people who are obsessed with games a need to walk around while focused on their phone is just asking for trouble.
And to see adults doing it is even worse
SW-User
Imagine you're deep in Southside D.C., walking around, with your phone out, looking like you're taking pictures of everything....
THAT'S why it's stupid
SW-User
It was so nice to finally read something positive on here until I saw the dumb negative comments :/
SW-User
@Ghostrider - Well, that would be a shame... As it is inevitable the driver that gets blamed for these things.
SW-User
@Ghostrider - I dunno, they seem to give them out like candy in the US, lol
zerofuks2give · 41-45, M
And this is why I love this game. It has done so much good for so many people :)
Ghostrider · 51-55, M
Well I have 4 kids and seeing how they are when they play xbox which is only a few hours a day on weekends. I would never let them outwith a game like pokemon.
Not everyone is as responsible as you.
As for the firearms reference, it was just to make a point not to disparage anyone's choice to own or use them. Just saying that things need to be used correctly.
Ghostrider · 51-55, M
Or the guy who runs over a kid....not his fault or choice....
zerofuks2give · 41-45, M
That's not even close to a valid point LOL
gregloa · 61-69, M
Why encourage it. Their are 10 idiots for every 1 smart responsible person who will be encouraged to be irresponsible by this game.
Canicu69 · 70-79, M
I agree. It is a phenomenon. Who ever thought this one up is a genius
gregloa · 61-69, M
I'm not talking about children most of them know better
Ghostrider · 51-55, M
@zerofuks. Do you have kids?
Ghostrider · 51-55, M
Really zerofuks? Care to explain?
