It was a trilogy that turned into about 10 books. (I think its more now).

Xanth series by Piers Anthony.

I was young, and my friend had the whole lot.
I chewed thru those books like an addict on crack.
They were awesome🤗

Magical, funny, thoughtful, clever and taught me to look on life differently.

Kind of like Terry Prachett and Robert Asprin: mythical, funny, but lots of clever writing underneath it all.

I dont think a book series has engaged me as much as those since.
I didn't want to put them down.
I vaguely remember a certain week of school where i came home, grabbed a bite to eat and then hibernated in my room and just read.... all night.... every night.
Id get up each morning, change my underwear, have a coffee and go to school.

Fondest memories of those books🤗

@OogieBoogie There's nothing better than a book which makes you want to read 'just one more chapter' because you don't want to put it down. One of life's finest pleasures 😍
@RodneyTrotter1 Oh it really is !

And then, if you do finally decide to sleep - you do that kid thing of 'just dream falling into the story' as you drift off.

THAT'S when i know a book is good. When you can just wrap all the chatacters around you and visualize it.

@OogieBoogie I once grabbed a book to read on a plane, it was a 5 hour flight and I was flying alone so needed something other than music. The book was so good that I was disappointed when the meal arrived and was pissed off when we landed because I'd rather have carried on reading 😆
@RodneyTrotter1 dayum !
That's a GOOD book 💪
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@OogieBoogie Now I have over 100 on my Kindle app and still can't find something to suit my mood. You can't beat a proper book!
@RodneyTrotter1 im treating books like movies now - im going back and reading favorites.

Theres just some nights you need a comfy spot and 'a good book'.
And you don't wanna risk it by reading something new and unknown 😅
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@OogieBoogie Absolutely spot on, I love a good read and a beer and always take a book hiking and camping so it better not disappoint.
My problem is I switched off from fiction a long time ago so my choices are somewhat limited, I need to give fiction another go 🙂
@RodneyTrotter1 oh im a fiction junkie 😅

Love me some random escapism.

I just never got into real life stuff. Mind you, it might be because im always researching stuff that i need a bit of a 'brain relax'.

Ive been a fantasy/sci fi nut ever since i first saw Dr Who
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@OogieBoogie I can handle fantasy but def not sci fi, never been able to relate to it. Am I weird?
Saying that, I did enjoy the early episodes of X Files when it was fairly believable.
I do need to get back into fiction, if I can enjoy watching it on tv or at a theatre I can enjoy reading it again.
@RodneyTrotter1 nah, not weird.
Everyone has what genres they like.
My mum never really read any sort of fiction as an adult. She loved human hardship stories.

My dad was a techincal fan. I swear all he read was manuals and engineering books.

I just love the whole, nesting into the couch with a cuppa and a book thing.
Its like closing off the days crap and falling into a different reality🤷‍♀
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@OogieBoogie My dad was similar, I swear he could read a manual and small print and be hooked on every word.
There's very little to choose from on tv so a good book is even more important nowadays. I love music but the feeling of sinking into the depths of a good read can't be beaten and if there's a film version it's never as good as the book, nowhere near.
@RodneyTrotter1 very true. Well ....except with maybe Lord of the Rings🤔 - that was good.

If only film makers could dedicate themselves like they did with that story....itd be so good.
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@OogieBoogie Been recommended Lord of the Rings so many times, perhaps I need to succumb!
Films nowadays are usually based on special effects and sensationalism, Covid seemed to kill the art of film making.
@RodneyTrotter1 Someone, (on here), who claimed to be in the industry, said it had a lot to do with the 'in houseness' of the industry.

They said the problem was, children of current flim people got preference for jobs .....and the thing was - they never really had any real life "Life".
And they were industry kids - so they didnt read books.... they lived the hollywood lifestyle.

So the upshot of it all was: these kids only knew hollywood and hollywood clichés - and that's what they put in movies.

And its why so many movies are so weak these days....and so boring. (Its not new original stuff). Its not 'creative-ism.... it's reguigitated second hand clichés patched togther.

And you know.....im a bit partial to believing that.

People arent getting into the Industry based on merit of talent or creativity.... they are getting in coz daddy works there.

🙄

@OogieBoogie What a bloody shame!
The last decent one I saw at a cinema was One Love, the Bob Marley story. I was bored rigid by the trailers that were showed before it started and a bit pissed off when i saw the upcoming choices on the way out, all sensationalist or special effect themed bollocks that cater for shallow types who talk and munch snacks for the whole two hours or so. Don't get me started on the sweet packet rustlers...grrrrrr!😆
