In some debates.

At SW mainly with someones that push anti Science agendas frequently driven by political / theological worldviews.
I respect there rights to think and post but the debate is fruitless as we don´t even share some basic assumptions in common.
More widely (that is at SW but also everywhere) with some à la mode philosophical / psychological schools of thought permeated by postmodernism, "positive attitude" and more of the kind.

About the 2nd part I see I was not clear enough, sorry my fault.
Let´s point to the jargon associated to the "philosophies" of the 2nd. kind I´m refraining to debate.
Some examples.
"Live the present"
"Love thyself"
"Let it go, detach"
"Be positive"...............
Once more I have a strong respect to almost everyone views.
But the ones behind those typical expressions are not my coup of coffee.
What shouldn´t be a problem except that the ones inmerse in said views seem to feel uncomfortable when commented from outside their assumptions.

Those monks and philosophers are, yes, one source of said view.
Threre are also some more academic contemporary theoretical branches of psychology that coopted (at least) parts of same views.
There are some people that agree with all them, some for deep reasons while others following the cultural "wave".
In either case I have no objection to their right to think, believe and say about.
What I sometimes find personally exhausting is the lack of a common "frame" needed to build a meaningfull dialog so if we agree as if not.

Each (or most of) set of believes / propensities haves it´s better and worst sides.
ONE problem of them all (includding mine of course) is that trend to become self accomplished prophesies. Or in other words to produce what will confirm them.
For better or worst and also since I remember (a lotttttttt of time, you can bet) I trend to look for the "other side" of almost all, includding what I believe and what may seem evident.

@ElRengo haha, my believe was all humans are good and well we must all support each other, over time i've come to hate all humans because i don't want to live with them, but from the outside looking in i'm fascinated and proud of the humans, their cunning, treacherous, cruel and more!
theres fantasy creature like that in books and other media and to be honest they are so much better than humans, because humans deny it while those creatures don't!

@ElRengo Are you talking about flat earthers or actual scientific debates?

Fantasy creatures are nothing new for humans.
In a way or another they have been always there.
Heroes and demi gods, lustful and vengative deidities, monsters and messengers, warriors and sorcerers, others.
There are a lot of ways to approach it.
Just one of them is that somehow are parts of us, not only individually but human.
The oversized images of desires and fears.
They can be magnified also because taking those parts as a whole, isolated from the limitations but mainly the contradicctions of humans. Archetypes.
As all caricatures they are like road signals, better for recognizing than as descriptions.
So in a way talking about them is IMO also talking of an aspect of us, humans.
Interesting but........my always restricted intellectual resources are today in worst conditions.

I grew up with spiritual, 'positive' people. I know the type really well. I have no issue with people being positive, living in the moment etc (Chicken noodle soup/Oprah types) but I also know a lot of them haven't done the necessary internal work to know their shadow self. Denial is not positive at all, it's bad for all.

I´m always interested in Science.
And cos the very nature of it I have no problem with divergent oppinions.
As long there is at least the intent of being serious.
There are also yes, some notorious fabulists.
Flat earthers and others of the kind are of scarce interest.
But.......there are also some people whose philosophic assumptions and besides their right to have them make them not easy for debating.
They are so inmersed that even their choose of words lead to that kind of circular reassoning that looks like a confirmation bias.
Sooooooooo........
Only because of my own limitationsssssssssssss.........(time and emotional resources)
I´m doing my best to avoid SOME debates.
Hope I´ve answered well.
