I buy most of my clothes pre-loved to begin with from SAVERS, then I wear them till they fall to bits. SAVERS buys and recycles second hand clothes as a business with any profits left after their running costs are paid going to genuine charities. Genuine charities have running costs also which must be paid with coin of the realm. To put it more simply, money can provide more flexible human assistance to a charitable organisation simply because it has a more negotiable application than direct donations of bags of clothing or perishable food. Fashion trends change continuously and many of the clothes I buy show very little sign of wear and tear, having probably been worn only a few times. I am not ashamed to wear jeans or t-shirts that are (imperceptibly) dated by a year or two. I prefer knowing that my purchase of good quality unwanted clothing is benefiting other Australians rather than the oppressive government of China which exports tons of cheap poorly made clothes and opposes the advancement of freedom and liberty in former British colonies such as Hong Kong.
