@Rickg This is going to sound so stupid, but my biggest fear is hearing something in total silence that's not supposed to be there.
I read a story when I was younger that said that if you listened hard enough to the quiet, you would be able to hear the whispering of something unseen... but if the whispering suddenly stops, it means they've noticed you listening in.
Something about that spooked me, I guess. I still scratch gently at things or focus on the sound of my breathing if things get too quiet.

@NorthernRoses A study was done one quite sounding noises that you can barely hear. Our brain tries to make the sound into words for some reason.
