@adorbz My sister and her family came to visit us one summer. My sister put a tent out by the garden in case the kids wanted to play there in it. I took my 4-year old nephew out there to show him and there was a crow sitting up on the bar at the top of the tent. I told him “let’s see if I can catch it”. I have no idea why I said that to him but as soon as I did I knew i had to try to catch it because it’s not good to tell something like that to a child if you don’t try. I told him to stand and watch. That crow was tipping his head at me like German shepherds do sometimes when you talk to him. He was young with pin feathers coming out on is head. I thought he might be hungry so I slowly went to the fence and got a bunch of wild grapes and plucked them off to offer him. Held them up to him & he looked at them & started eating them & I grabbed his leg and put him under my arm and took him to show my nephew. We went back to the house and showed everyone the crow. Had some leftover cornbread and fed him & let him go after a few minutes. He stuck around and let me feed him the rest of the summer and early fall. He’d fly alongside my car as drove down the long driveway to go to work and be waiting at the mailbox for me when I got home and fly back with me, and he did this every day that I worked.

@adorbz I didn’t know it till last year but found out my grandmother came from the Bird Clan, one of the 7 Cherokee Clans. Women remained in the Clans they were born in while men had to marry outside of their Clans.

@SW-User This crow would eat corn or cornbread right away. If I gave him a slice of wheat bread he’d take it and fly over to a spot in the yard and lay it down and find a leaf, put the oak leaf on the bread and then find a rock and put the rock on top of the leaf to keep it from flying away. I guess saving the bread for in case he didnt’ find anything better to eat.

@adorbz One time at lunch break at work (in the dorm area of a university) I was sitting in the break room and my lead came in and told me that there was a yellow bird in a tree and since I liked birds maybe I would try to catch it. I went out there and it was a yellow parakeet sitting on a branch of a crape myrtle tree (there was a row of them next to the building). My friend and the lead stood and was watching. I told them to back up so not to scare the bird. They decided to go inside and within 5 minutes caught it and brought it inside.
