The pursuit of knowledge. There is a grain of truth in the Solomonic idea of knowledge is sorrow, the less ignorance there is the more woe, the more you see things around you going in erroneous ways, and if you're like me and am still only in the rudimentary stages of learning, there's no known way to communicate what is only partially known. The decision to keep ploughing away is done with zero expectation of discoveries, because of a kind of demented nature the process of learning is chosen to be experienced in slow motion and in clusters of sequences of short to long periods of time. To make the most of something, happiness can just be a roadblock, or a diversion from what really is relished.
