Two things:
1. The more I write down my thoughts, the more I come to know myself. SW is a good, all-subjects-allowed spot for doing that and for discovering the adjustments I ought to consider making.
2. I am surrounded by others, whose serious writings tell me that they, too, are in the process of self-discovery and adjustment. To the extent that we are influenced to know and "improve" ourselves, in our small ways we add stones to the foundation of Civilization, and that en masse, our members bring to bear a net-positive effect on themselves, and thus upon the world.
Some may disagree, but I think the advantages one gains by participating in SW's many-faceted Forums far exceed those realized from within one-on-one DM exchanges.
