Nebraska. It was damn cold in the winter. They called off school one day in the morning because the temperature had gotten below -20 F. And there was a state law that we had to go home because if it got much colder the buses might stall out and endanger our lives. And very few trees except near rivers where we lived or those tall trees that were planted for windbreaks around farms after the Dust Bowl. I did enjoy visiting my grandparents in Grand Island, it had more trees and the city seemed very peaceful.
