Embarassing math question

If an ideal length of a thing is 63 and the current is 83, means the thing needs to be reduced by how much percent

A percentage is found by dividing the bit you're interested in (how much to cut off, in this case) by the total (83, here), then multiplying by 100.

20/83 = 0.2409...
x 100
So about 24%

20 is clearly about 1/4 of 83, since it's exactly 1/4 of 80, so that seems about right
