A lot of it involves customer service. A lot of it involves loss prevention. They don't like it when you tell them "oh, I'm just looking." I used to get that a lot when I was in car sales. Somebody would come on to the lot and say that. And our rebuttal would be, "so what are you looking for?" And from there we would assess their needs.

These are businesses. And they do have the right to filter out any body who doesn't belong there. Of course you're not a thief. But they don't know that. So talk to them. Tell them what products you're looking for. If you don't know what you're looking for let them know you're in the goal , whether or not you're trying to take care of dry skin . Or oily skin . Something like that. If they say they don't have it, ask who might have it.

If they're simply kicking you out without trying to assess your needs, that's bad customer service. But customer service goes two ways.

@Prisoner1972 I’ve worked at a store and the sad thing was that they let the chronic shoplifters go and watched other people instead. One woman would come into the store almost every day bringing back items that were about $8.50 or less and returning them without a receipt, it was always less than $10 and she could get cash back. She’d come in several times a day and do that with the same type of items every week, small things that were in that price range and she could slip into her large purse. One week it was Sharpie pen sets, another ceramic soap dishes, another week maybe their fake jewelry beads. She brought her two young children and used them for distractions and one thing I’d see her doing was go into the women’s clothing and push her cart under a circular clothing rack. When she’d leave there would be empty boxes that held Tylenol and other things like cosmetics and health items that were small. The assets protection people never seemed to catch her and they wouldn’t listen to store employees either when they tried to tell them what they saw that was suspicious

I don’t know but I ever get that treatment anywhere I won’t shop in the store again. It happened a few times when I was young and I lead one security person around the store on a Sunday for 2 hours while I was clearance shopping at Target. I guess he only stopped because it was his break time. I deliberately looked at things on clearance such as women’s underwear because I knew he was watching me like a hawk and it was funny to see him at the panty rack sliding panty after panty like he was shopping for them as he kept looking towards me. 😂 I don’t know but I’d think that a shoplifter wouldn’t confine their shoplifting ventures solely to very cheap clearance items.

It's because they have sales and merit goal they have to meet. It happens to me too.

@dontbekoi I'm considering shopping online because it makes me uncomfortable. On the other hand I like to physically hold and look at the product too.

@FutureIdol Oh, I agree. I just purchased 4 concealers online because I could not figure out which shade best suited me. It would have been SO much easier going into the store! I am also really sensitive to fragrance, in cosmetics, so I have to smell everything 😆 I don't know if all Targets are opening an Ulta in them but mine now does and the stalking is minimal (probably because it is busier?) You might want to try that route? 😊

It's because of how you look, there must be people who look somewhat like you who tend to steal, sadly.. 😕

@SW-User I'm not sure there aren't many asians in my area. Maybe it's because I went in barefaced instead of having some makeup on.
SW-User
@FutureIdol Oh I didn't mean Asians, I meant your style. I don't think Asians have a reputation for stealing anywhere.. at least would surprise me. My point was that it has to be how you look, they have no other reason to act like, of course unless that person was just some weirdo, or maybe he wanted your number. 😂

Complain to the manager. Say the behaviour is putting you off actually buying anything in the store 😉

They do it to everyone, they must have a crazy of theft.
