What happened to the smartest kid in your class ?

Believe it or not, I graduated at the top of my high school class. Then... mental illness took over. The rest, as they say, is history.

@SW-User My mother was valedictorian of her class and got several scholarship offers. She tested out of most of the classes at a business college and graduated in 9 months and got a job in DC with the Social Security Administration. Was working less than a year and Pearl Harbor happened. She immediately quit her job and joined the Woman’s Army and after basic training was assigned to a general as his aide. Every time he was sent to another country in the Pacific she went with him. She caught malaria in Philippines and nearly died with a high fever. Damaged her nervous system so badly that they air-lifted her back to
the USA with a year in the hospital. She was never able to work again and if she was hospitalized would spend a year in the hospital every time before they got her well again. The VA took good care of her

@cherokeepatti The VA does a good job, I know. I have an uncle who had better care than anyone in the family due to his having been a veteran of the Korean war.

@SW-User they let her volunteer in their office before she was released each time. She was so happy to do it and it was healthy for her
