November writing prompts - Midnight Air
When the walls close in on this restless soul
And the stars call out overhead
I slip outside underneath that sea
Diving for insignificance
With each passing step the dream takes hold
The buildings fade
The pavement sinks
The quiet of the night unfolds
And tells me tales of what might have been
The silver light steals through the trees
The shadows hold their mysteries
Time slips back to yesterdays
When someone ran here
Wild and free
Through the deep deep blue
And the soft soft black
A connection remembered
I’ll forever have
And with each breath
The restlessness soothed
In the stillness of the midnight air.
And the stars call out overhead
I slip outside underneath that sea
Diving for insignificance
With each passing step the dream takes hold
The buildings fade
The pavement sinks
The quiet of the night unfolds
And tells me tales of what might have been
The silver light steals through the trees
The shadows hold their mysteries
Time slips back to yesterdays
When someone ran here
Wild and free
Through the deep deep blue
And the soft soft black
A connection remembered
I’ll forever have
And with each breath
The restlessness soothed
In the stillness of the midnight air.
