Several different distros over the years. My current fav is MX with a KDE environment. It is pretty lightweight without being too stripped down. I have it running on a 15 year old laptop and one 4 years old.
And manjaro which takes a little more power but I have it running on a raspberry pi and an HTPC.
The only thing I really need windows for is pc games. For general everyday computing Linux is great.

@canusernamebemyusername thats good, i know alot of people who run mx, but i dont understand the popularity, do you mind sharing what makes you use it over other debian forks?
@sourmilk117 Just a lot of customization and a centralized software center are attractive options. Also it's it a pretty good looking os despite it being lightweight.
Like I have tried puppy linux which is reaalllly light but it can be weird at best. Almost like a made up fictional os you'd find in a movie or video game. lol Much less user friendly.
I also used the MX predecessor Mepis as well back in the day as one of the only distros that would run on a certain set of old hardware. But their merger with antiX has done well for them I think.
I like checking out new distros every couple of years or so. So my favs can change over time.

@canusernamebemyusername that makes sense, i never liked puppy too much, it was the most plain and boring distro ive ever used, i switch out operating systems ever month or two, so i also always get new favourites.
but for now bsd is my favorite and i dont think thats going to change

@sourmilk117 I used to use centos and red hat a whole lot. long ago, I used yggdrasl, now moving lots of stuff to ubuntu.

@stound interesting, i really want to try out a rpm based distro, the software availability seems amazing, whenever i have to use debian/ubuntu or the other distros iuse (kiss venom alpine crux slackware etc) i just wish i could have access to rpm packages
@sourmilk117 i think the wide spread commercial adoption of redhat sealed that. Oh, back in the day suse was a common use one, too.

I've used Linux distros for VPS servers and for home computing. CentOS for the former and Ubuntu for the latter.

@basilfawlty89 ah ok, what are some problems youve had with linux (im asking just because im interested in the overall opinion of people who use linux)
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@sourmilk117 to be honest, with Ubuntu, the only thing is not all apps are compatible with it that are on Windows or MacOS. For work I need to sometimes use Photoshop. And games aren't as compatible as with Windows, but it is improving.

@basilfawlty89 that makes sense, im glad to hear the overall experience is good though
