@SinlessOnslaught if I read this first or could give two best answers I would. A lot of people are like you say, if they've never seen it before or if it's a new way of doing something calling it weird makes them feel that the person listening thinks they are smarter.
We all know that person that put the no in innovation. The guy that admits that there are nine ways to skin a cat but thinks eight of them are wrong.
