Oooooohhhh....not sure about this. I have 2 friends from school whom I have known for 48 years. We all live apart now but meet up a few times a year. We love each other with all our hearts and would drop everything to help if needed. I have made many close acquaintances over the years but nothing compares to my 2 best buddies.

@LipstickandHeels: Yep, I get that and I would never want to go into business with my buddies. This is us in 1976 on a summer holiday just before we all went up to different universities. I'm 59 now...[image deleted]

There may be an element of truth in that quote, but there are elements of foolishness in it as well. Anyone who thinks that making enemies is necessary is nuts. Many enemies will not be loyal, they will plot their revenge and stab you in the back.

It is about personal character and I've seen good people do bad things and then find they were wrong. Those that apologize can usually be trusted and become allies or even friends.

Bad people are bad people...

That might be the dumbest thing I've read this year. Although, true, it's only February.

Hire a former enemy and you empower him and allow him to become a current enemy again - probably without you being aware of the change ... until too late, anyway.

As for friends, if you're wedded to the autocratic pursuit of power, you don't have friends. You have subjects, enemies, and allies ... and you never fully trust allies. If on the other hand, you pursue the collaborative building of a power structure, your friends -are- your strength.

Interesting perspective but when you think about it an enemy does respect you more at times than a friend ever will. Very nice.
