“The more you take, the less you have”

I didn’t understand this quote for a long time, but I get it now. It’s essentially about unrelenting greed and the concept that all you accumulate will never be enough because you are always going to want more. Kleptomania, pretty much. Even if one is able to steadily take and take all they like, there’s only so much they can before they reach that ceiling on the ladder of gaining to where they’ve climbed the highest they can possible climb it… then the thrill wears off — and it will wear off — then what? How far does one have to walk down that road before they themselves finally understand what the aforementioned quote means? The saddest part about it is another realization: was any of it ever truly theirs?
