It's not better, the two words exist because they have different meanings. Saying the formed doesn't exist is wild, maybe it didn't for him

@Elessar Where did anyone say the term doesn't exist? He made a good point. For example, I can't empathize with his widow and children, as I am neither a widow, nor the child of a murdered father and don't and can't know how they truly feel. I do, however, have the utmost sympathy for them.

@Therealsteve Literally in the citation you posted. "No one can feel what another person feels" / "empathy is a made up term".

But if you were the son of a murdered father or the widow of a murdered wife, do you think your feelings would be limited to feeling at most pity, without understanding or re/experiencing the feeling yourself?

If the answer is "no" you're in disagreement with the quote.

@Elessar As I said, I wouldn't be able to know exactly what others are feeling. These "I'm an empath" people are cringe. It's pretty simple. You know you don't have to take apart and disagree with even the most fundamental aspects of language just to prove a point against someone you don't like? It's pathetic and it's that lust to one up that contributes to such deadly division.

Cue your disagreement, of course...

As I said, that's yours and Kirk's limitation. As Elwood says the concept is at least as old as ancient Greece.

For me it's cringe when one doesn't understand what a thing is and automatically labels "cringe" and becomes vitriolic to those who experience it. If you truly care about "divisiveness" I'd start working on that hostile behavior firsthand.
Therealsteve · 31-35, M
@Elessar What is cringe is trying to argue with an English teacher over the definition of words, due to being so ideologically possessed that you can't even accept basic, fundamental definitions. And also to try and even so much as hint at someone challenging the things you spew to try to justify what happened to Charlie is "hostile" is despicable. Good day.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@Therealsteve Words that aren't even English, and were just ripped off from Latin/Greek like 75% of the language.

Basic, fundamental definitions that were coined ~3000 years ago and that only you (plural) woke up one day and decided they're no longer good because you allegedly can experience only one?
