in old times if you got tuberculosis, were you bed ridden for years

[c=005E2F][i]i was watching an old interview on youtube with the late actor richard harris and he said when he was a lad in ireland long ago, he contracted TB, tuberculosis and he was bedridden for 3 years where he took the time to study books like richard III.[/i][/c]

It depended upon how sick you were. Also when, there were no medications for it for centuries, going to the mountains for fresh air was the standard treatment.
