do you still get ''cowboy hatted old timers'' or are they a thing of the past

[c=BF0000][i]in a horror fiction novel i'm reading dating back to the early 1990s set in Arizona, a character in the book sees a cowboy hatted old-timer crossing the sidewalk while she is in her car...my question is do you still get those types in america or are they more a thing of the distant past now?[/i][/c]

Probably in the south. I have seen some young cowboy-hatted people down near Houston.

Depends upon where you are. If it is a rural area where ranching occurs, and that is not limited to Texas or the South, you will, because those hats do serve a function. Or if you are in areas where country music is big, like Nashville, Austin, Bakersfield, you will -- not for function but for "artistic" commercialism.
