Period of mourning is ridiculous

It's the hypocrisy of it more than anything else with some sports events getting cancelled while others aren't. Where it affects me is in my regiment they're only serving 'simple' meals like an unseasoned piece of beef or chicken, watery potatoes or plain pasta and some boiled veg for example. Then we have to eat it in silence. I'm all for paying respect but are any of the royal family going to be following the same? Will they even care with what we eat? Lots of people think our meals are free in the army so we can just go somewhere else for food but we get a food allowance dedicated from our wages so this is most people's only source of fuel. Perhaps for one day it'd be an appropriate tribute but to keep this going until September 19 is ridiculous

Yeah… forcing people to eat bad food out of a misguided interpretation of mourning doesn’t seem okay. If you choose to mourn that way sure but enforcing that on others… just no.

@JustJordan Maybe lol 🤷🏻‍♀️ I do know that the Royal Family, while the Queen was alive, could only eat *certain* foods at dinner.

There is a rule that they can't eat shellfish as well.

@SW-User and that's their business but not mine

@JustJordan I totally agree

Shouldn't this be more about celebrating her long reign and her welcome into the everlasting arms of God?

When my dad died at the age of 97 it was more of a celebration of a life well lived than a period of mourning.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Thank you, and let that inspire others to carry the sword.

That is so dumb

I’m against any holiday as well
Why force business to close and parents to scramble for childcare

Happy 2023, by the way! 🎆🎇🎊🎉🥳🍾

Did you and your regiment make it through the mourning period okay? That was a terrible diet they basically forced you to consume. Not a good fuel source, you are correct.

I'm a yank and haven't grown up with the tradition but it seems as though the royals are kind of an expensive tradition that has lost its meaning.

I would hate to be on display like that.

Hope the rations have improved.

Does unseasoned chicken put one in a fowl mood?

@swirlie but do her 'children' celebrate her that way?
