70 years rule

I'm no monarchist, but a proud republican, but well done, Liz for keeping the same job for seventy years.
Elizabeth I of Great Britain and II of England - 70 years
Queen Victoria of Great Britain lasted 64 years.
King George III of Great Britain lasted 59 years
King James VI of Scotland and 1 of United Kingdom lasted 58 years
I suppose Chuck will be next, unless we ditch the monarchy and form a republic.

Queen Elizabeth is the second not the first to have that name...

Queen Elizabeth 2 is her title. Lol
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@braveheart21 actually [@HarrietSpeedy] is correct. Queen Elizabeth I was never Queen of Britain only England. The monarchy of England and Scotland only merged on her death when James VI of Scotland became James I of England too. From there forward the monarchy has, stated unified. So Queen Elizabeth II our current monarch is the first of that name to be Queen of Scotland.
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@braveheart21 First queen of all of Britain.
The previous Elizabeth was only queen of England and Wales, so this one is really Elizabeth the First of Great Britain.
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
Read my response.... I did not query WHER she was Queen of... I just corrected her title... She is not Queen Elizabeth the First.... @HarrietteSpeedy
OldBrit · 61-69, M

braveheart21 · 61-69, M

@braveheart21 I refer to this interesting snippet

Around Edinburgh you'll find many VR postboxes (pre-1901), an occasional Edward VII (1901-1910), and plenty of GR boxes, from the reigns of George V and George VI. What you won't find, however, are boxes bearing the insignia of Elizabeth II, our current monarch.

During the 1970s, a number of postboxes bearing the EIIR emblem were vandalised and were targets of explosive devices left in the boxes, which caused considerable risk to the members of the postal service responsible for making collections from them.

The resistance that some people in Scotland had to the EIIR insignia was based on the assertion that Elizabeth II of England is only (technically) Elizabeth I of Scotland - Elizabeth I of England ruled before Scotland and England were united. As such, some people in Scotland felt that the EIIR insignia was not appropriate for the monarch they failed to recognise by that title.

With such explosive resistance proving a threat to mail service employees, an agreement was reached that post boxes in Scotland would not bear the insignia of Elizabeth II, but would instead be marked simply with a general royal emblem or a crown crest. [/quote]

Im not arguing the how and why... Just staing what her title is.... Queen Elizabeth 2.... Thats all @OldBrit
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@braveheart21 William will have same issue with Scottish sensibilities unless he decides on a different name as monarch.
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
Sadly it will be a longtime before that becomes a problem... @OldBrit
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@braveheart21 A false title that insults the people of Scotland - no wonder so many wish to dissolve the union.
Whatever her official title, she is Elizabeth the First of Great Britain.
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@braveheart21 Indeed she is. Elizabeth the First of Great Britain - unless one is numerically dyslexic, or an English Nationalist.
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@OldBrit Well done the Scots! Alba Gu Brath!
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
Or as it seems like you a Scottish nationalist.... You have fun with your argument... I only stated her official title......@HarrietteSpeedy
HarrietteSpeedy · 61-69, F
@braveheart21 I am English and wish the Union to continue . Insulting one of the component nations will not help. It is a fact, rather than an argument. She is the first Elizabeth to rule Great Britain, therefore is Elizabeth the First. Anything else is illogical.
braveheart21 · 61-69, M
Thats where we differ... Im British... I served in the armed forces of the United Kingdom with other people from all the constituent parts... We were not Welsh Scottish Irish or English.... We were all British... And ALL proud to be so... @HarrietteSpeedy
