It's possible, but if he *doesn't* enter NATO territory I don't see how he would.
He doesn't have any interest in using nuclear, and has in fact been somewhat restrained in Ukraine. If he really wanted an effective and quick capitulation, there are a number of measures he could have taken. Instead he is playing the long game and is gradually trying to wear Ukraine down, and hoping that support and interest from the West will diminish.
If the Republicans are voted in next year, the war will be won by Russia in a shorter period of time, or a peace deal will be reached.
Despite what some media outlets say, Putin is very calculated...he isn't impulsive.

They lied about the Ghost of Kyiv. They show us photos of prior wars from years ago telling you it's Ukraine. They show photos of destroyed Ukrainian military equipment, and claim it's Russian. The BBC wrote an article claiming the Russians were out of ammo and were sending reserves to the front line to fight with shovels.
The media doesn't talk about how senator Obama helped establish the US biolab program in Ukraine back in 2005. Victoria Nuland denied they existed until the Russians captured the labs and she freaked out that they had US developed pathogens that could used as bioweapons. That's the same Victoria Nuland that helped engineer a coup in 2014, that ousted a pro- Russian and installed a pro-western gov't in its place. The list goes on.
No one is saying Putin is a boy scout. But it looks like the globalists in control of NATO have been trying to provoke this conflict and escalate it for a long time.

@Harmony Imagine this scenario. China creates a military alliance with a few South American countries with the objective of preventing US expansion southward. Over time, China adds countries to their alliance moving northward through South and Central America. Then...China steps in right before elections take place in Mexico and installs a pro CCP president.

@Harmony that's exactly what NATO has done in Europe since it was established after WWII. Their stated objective was to prevent the USSR expansion through Europe. But it's been NATO pushing eastward. And then the US flipped the Ukrainian gov't to be pro-west in 2014. Then civil war broke out between Kyiv and the pro-Russian Ukrainians of the east. I can understand how Russia sees it as a threat.
